Reset the Instagram algorithm

Instagram shipped a genuine reset. It clears everything the recommendation system has learned about you — Explore, Reels, suggested posts — without touching who you follow.

  1. Open your profile, tap the menu, then Settings and activity.
  2. Scroll to Content preferences.
  3. Tap Reset suggested content and confirm.
  4. From now on, use Not interested (three dots on any suggested post) generously. That's the retraining.

Refresh the TikTok For You feed

TikTok's version is called a refresh. After it, TikTok treats your account as brand new — and relearns from whatever you watch next. Choose carefully.

  1. Go to Profile → menu → Settings and privacy.
  2. Open Content preferences.
  3. Tap Refresh your For You feed and confirm.
  4. In the same menu you can also filter keywords and adjust topic sliders — useful even without a full reset.

Start YouTube fresh

No single button here — YouTube's recommendations are driven by your watch and search history. Clear both and the homepage forgets you.

  1. In the YouTube app: You → settings gear → Manage all history.
  2. Delete watch history and search history (all time).
  3. Optional: pause watch history entirely. Recommendations stop learning — the homepage goes quiet.
  4. Same controls live at myactivity.google.com on desktop.

Facebook: no reset — a way around it

Honest answer: Facebook doesn't let you reset its algorithm. But you can stop looking at it.

  1. Open the Feeds tab (menu → Feeds, then pin it as a shortcut).
  2. You'll see posts from people and pages you actually follow, in chronological order — no suggestions, fewer ads.
  3. In the EU, you can also switch to non-personalised feed options under your settings, thanks to the Digital Services Act.
